Ottawa is Canada's lovely capital city.
Located on the beautiful Ottawa River, and boasting the Rideau Canal - which freezes every winter to create the world's longest ice-rink!
Downtown Ottawa is wonderful! Safe, compact, easy to walk around - and everything is here. Public transport is excellent too.
Ottawa is a sophisticated, cultural city - with many famous buildings, art-galleries, museums, parks and other attractions.
See below for our favourite things to do in Ottawa.
The Weather in Ottawa
Summers are hot and humid. In July, daytime temperatures average around 26°C (80 °F).
Winter temperatures can drop to −14.8 °C (5.4 °F), but don't let that deter you. Ottawa is geared up for the cold and there is plenty to do.
Whilst Ottawa cannot claim the gay attractions of Montreal, Vancouver or Toronto, it still has a lot to offer the gay visitor - including "Le Village".
Ottawa is an enlightened city - with a lot of gay residents, and an open-minded attitude towards its many thousands of GLBT visitors.
Le Village occupies six city blocks towards the northern end of Bank Street - between Nepean Street and James Street.
It has a great location, Downtown, and it is within easy walking distance of Ottawa's best attractions and other nightlife areas.
The local gay community is very enthusiastic about Le Village, and it will undoubtedly go from strength to strength. But for now it is fairly small.
There are a few very good gay bars (see below), clubs and restaurants, and two or three gay saunas.
Capital Pride is Ottawa’s Gay Pride festival that takes place in Bank Street and Somerset at the end of August.
But don't come to Ottawa just for the gay scene.
Come to Ottawa because it is a wonderful city, most of which can be enjoyed quite openly by GLBT visitors - there is no need to hide in the village.
There are plenty of gay-friendly hotels in Ottawa, and this sophisticated city offers lots of things to see and do all year round (see below).
