Finding Montreal's Gay Village
Montreal's Gay Village, also known as "Le
Village Gai" or simply "Le Village" occupies
several blocks in the Ville-Marie area of the city.
The centre of Le Village is around Beaudry
metro station - and this is a good place to start
your exploration. The station is decorated with
rainbow pillars - see photo below. This makes
you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
The Village runs along Rue Sainte-Catherine -
from St-Hubert Street to De Lorimier Street.
And between Sherbrooke Street and René
Lévesque Boulevard on Amherst Street.
Le Village spans almost two kilometres - the
biggest gay village in North America!
It is also very close to the beautiful Old Town,
and the vibrant Downtown areas.
|Montreal is a magnet for gay men and women from all over the world.
One of the main reasons for this is Montreal's Gay Village - The biggest gay village in North America!
"Le Village" is the hub of gay activity in Montreal - with countless gay bars, clubs, restaurants, stores, hotels, B&Bs etc.
During the summer, the main streets in the village are closed to vehicles - adding to the atmosphere.
The village is also the focal point of Montreal's fabulous gay festivals.
The nightlife in Le Village is fabulous - but don't just come here at night!
The village is fabulous during the daytime too.
There are hundreds of restaurants, street-cafes, stores, and markets to enjoy.
And the atmosphere during the day - especially in summer - is wonderful.
This whole area belongs to gay men and women! Browse, shop, eat, drink, enjoy the street entertainers, etc etc.
There is nowhere else quite like it!
Where to stay in or near Le Village?
There is plenty of accommodation within the confines of Le Village - but some of it is pretty dire!
The Village is a great place to play, but it is not necessarily the best place to stay.
It can be very noisy, and quite rowdy here in the early hours of the morning - which is fine if that's what you're looking for.
But if you prefer to sleep in more peaceful surroundings, our advice is to play in the village, but stay in The Old Town.
