|Gay Friendly Travel Guide to Benidorm Spain
Benidorm is Spain's version of Blackpool - a "kiss me quick" seaside resort where sun, fun and value for money are vital.
Snobs and culture-vultures should go someplace else - Benidorm is definitely not for you! You'll find Benidorm tacky and brash.
This is a working-class resort - offering a great value, warm-weather, version of England, with a hint of Spain thrown in!
Benidorm may be brash and tacky, but it's also a lot of fun. The largest resort on the Mediterranean - with something for everyone.
The two main beaches here (Levante and Poniente) are huge and fabulous - with superb promenades along their entire length.
There are thousands of places to stay, eat and drink, prices are low, and the town is buzzing day and night all year round.
And, in the heart of the old town, unnoticed by the vast majority of tourists, Benidorm has one of the best gay villages in Europe.
If you shop around, you can rent a basic apartment for 5 Euros a night out of season, or a 4 star hotel for 20 Euros a night!
Every hour is "happy hour" somewhere in Benidorm - so you can get cheap drinks all day and night if you feel inclined!
The weather in Benidorm is hot, hot, hot in summer - and pleasantly warm in winter (you can top up your tan - even in December).
Benidorm is not usually considered a major gay attraction - but it should be! There has been a thriving gay scene here for 30 years.
The scene here is friendly, relaxed, lots of fun, and it blends seamlessly with the rest of the town. It's also a lot cheaper than Sitges!
The gay village in Benidorm is in the Old Town - the nicest, most Spanish part of town, between the two main beaches.
Here you will find at least 25 gay bars and clubs - all with a few steps of each other. See below for our favourites.
There are several gay-run hotels here - and hundreds of gay-friendly places to stay.
Prices here are lower than just about anywhere else in Spain - and everything stays open all year round.
There is a small area of Levante Beach - right beside the gay village - where gay men and women tend to gather.
Poniente Beach is quieter than Levante, and its promenade is a popular cruising area for gay men at night.
Raco de Conill is a gay nudist beach at the far end of Poniente Beach just beyond the La Cala area of Benidorm.
